APTN will host Aboriginal Day Live and Celebration, an annual celebration of National Aboriginal Day and the summer solstice, on Saturday, June 23, 2012. Two concerts will take place: one at the Forks in Winnipeg, Manitoba and the other at the First Nations University of Canada in Regina, Saskatchewan. Both will be broadcast live across the country on APTN and APTN HD.
In its sixth year, these free concerts will feature some of the biggest names in Aboriginal music and television. Performers will be announced at a special press conference in May. Co-hosts for the Winnipeg event include Don Kelly, star of the APTN hit series Fish out of Water; Candy Palmater, comedian and star of The Candy Show; and APTN’s own Upload personality Chantelle (that’s me!). Co-hosts for the Regina event include Aboriginal DJ and actress Crystle Lightning and First Nations producer and actressJennifer Podemski. For the second year in a row, to precede the live concert, APTN will host its celebration, a day-long schedule of events that will include a variety of family-friendly events suitable for both young and old, Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal People.
