Google Responds To FTC Inquiry

Published by Admin on June 24th, 2011 - in Guest Post SEO

Yesterday news broke that the FTC is preparing to launch a major investigation into Google’s “core search advertising business” and the way its search results are presented — an investigation that could have major ramifications for the search giant.

Google has faced plenty of scrutiny from the FTC before, including lengthy investigations during its acquisitions of AdMob and ITA. But now the government organization is examining Google’s business on the whole, which means the stakes are bigger. (Here’s a detailed guide by Danny Sullivan at Search Engine Land that outlines all of the recent antitrust investigations Google is dealing with).

A few minutes ago, Google posted its initial response to the inquiry on its official blog.

Google’s post, which is titled “Supporting choice, ensuring economic opportunity”, outlines some of the company’s oft-stated core values (and repeatedly points out that consumers can easily change to another search engine). The post is far from combative, but it does preemptively respond to some of the complaints.

Regarding the fact that Google frequently integrates its own products into results in a way that might lead to fewer clicks to third-party sites:

Since the beginning, we have been guided by the idea that, if we focus on the user, all else will follow. No matter what you’re looking for—buying a movie ticket, finding the best burger nearby, or watching a royal wedding—we want to get you the information you want as quickly as possible. Sometimes the best result is a link to another website. Other times it’s a news article, sports score, stock quote, a video or a map.

A brief response to complaints from sites that say Google is purposely punishing them in search result rankings for anticompetitive reasons:

We make hundreds of changes to our algorithms every year to improve your search experience. Not every website can come out at the top of the page, or even appear on the first page of our search results.

And then there’s the matter of Choice — a word that appears five times in their post, including the headline. Google has long made the argument that a competitive search engine is always a few clicks away, and that its success is a result of consumers choosing it, rather than being locked in. Google also points out its Data Liberation Front, which is Google’s initiative to help users export their Google data should they wish to do so.

Search helps you go anywhere and discover anything, on an open Internet. Using Google is a choice—and there are lots of other choices available to you for getting information: other general-interest search engines, specialized search engines, direct navigation to websites, mobile applications, social networks, and more.

Because of the many choices available to you, we work constantly on making search better, and will continue to follow the principles that have guided us from the beginning:

At this point Google says it doesn’t know exactly what the FTC’s concerns are — expect to see more posts from them once the inquiry gets under way.

U.S. Federal Trade Commission Subpoenas Google!

Published by Admin on June 24th, 2011 - in Guest Post SEO

Google confirms FTC subpoena, says concerns are unclear

It’s official: Google just filed a public notice acknowledging that its business practices are under investigation by the Federal Trade Commission.

“On June 23, 2011, Google Inc. received a subpoena and a notice of civil investigative demand from the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) relating to a review by the FTC of Google’s business practices, including search and advertising,” reads the filing. “Google is cooperating with the FTC on this investigation.”

In a post on its official blog, the company says it recognizes that its success “has led to greater scrutiny.” The post adds, “It’s still unclear exactly what the FTC’s concerns are, but we’re clear about where we stand. Since the beginning, we have been guided by the idea that, if we focus on the user, all else will follow.”

The post also lays out and explains the company’s core principles: Do what’s best for the user; Provide the most relevant answers as quickly as possible; Label advertisements clearly; Be transparent; and Loyalty, not lock-in.

The investigation doesn’t necessarily mean the federal government will ultimately bring charges against the company.

The Wall Street Journal had reported yesterday that the FTC was preparing to launch the investigation, focusing on whether the search giant has unfairly used its dominance in the Internet search business to favor its own products over those from its rivals.

Google holds about 65 percent of the U.S. search market, compared to a combined 30 percent for Microsoft and Yahoo, according to the latest numbers from the comScore research firm. By Todd Bishop.

You might also noticed, schema.org markup is only valid for doctype – HTML5  – http://www.w3.org/TR/html5/microdata.html

Schema.org – Update

Google recently announced it would begin utilizing a new form of Rich Text Markup, you can see at schema.org. This promted a flurry of attention from web developers and SEO specialists, scrambling to learn to use this new markup.

Looking into it, we find, schema markup is only used by google to further refine search results for certain things, such as products.
Microdata is a set of tags, introduced with HTML5, that allows you to describe a specific movie, place, person, or video.
The fine print is if you’re using xhtml, or already using a type of Rich Text Markup recognized by google, it’s not that urgent to update to this new format. Thedjphat.com.

How to Hire the Correct SEO Company

How to Hire the Correct SEO Company – By Todd Herman of canadaseopro.ca

Some site owners consider hiring an SEO company after launching their websites. Some would want to take up the work of search engine optimization themselves. But you must understand that you have to entrust the work with someone who will take care of your needs. Search engine optimization is an ongoing process that should be continued throughout the year. When you do this by yourself, you will not have time to develop your business. You have to take into account various things when you entrust the SEO works with someone.

The SEO company that you select must be capable of giving you the best possible results in minimum time. Building links is the essential part of SEO. You have to select that company which assures you good quality links. Do not be taken in by those who boast to provide thousands of links in a short time. This will only spoil the reputation of your site. The links built overnight are considered to be spam by search engines. This should be a gradual process. So always pay focus on quality of the links and not its quantity. Select the correct company that will guarantee you high quality links.

What people usually do when selecting an SEO company is, they get quotation from a dozen companies and select one who quotes the lowest price. This is not a healthy practice. You cannot increase your page rank dramatically simply by paying a small or big amount of money. You must get dedicated service together with the willingness to offer untiring efforts. All the companies do not offer the same type of SEO service. Each one of them has its unique methods. So always make a little analysis of how they work for you and what methods they adopt to give you good results.

The proceedings of the SEO company you select must be transparent. They must submit you periodical reports of what they are doing and what is the outcome of their service. However you cannot expect great change in your page rank in a few days or few weeks. This might take months together depending upon the keywords you have selected. If the keywords are highly competitive, then the earning potential will be more for those keywords. But remember that it is very difficult to get ranking for those keywords. The SEO company must help you to select the right choice of keywords that have medium competition.

You should not fully trust the SEO company by reading the testimonials written by the work providers in their site. Often this could be fake testimonials. You now might get the question, how to select the write one for your SEO. You check their track records and get the proof of their achievements. There is nothing wrong in selecting the new company because they could provide you the best possible results because they are in necessity to earn a good customer base. See to it that they have specialization in your niche and you will never be disappointed with their service.

A little analysis will help you make the right choice. Visit:  SEO company, https://canadaseopro.ca for more details.

They should help you to find the targeted customers. Some businesses focus on particular geographical location. In that case your ranking must increase in the local search engines.

The internet marketing company should be able to guide you in the process of SEM. Various measures of search engine marketing are PPC programs like Adwords, taking part in contextual advertising and banner exchange programs and the like. This focuses on advertisements and paying for links, etc. All these efforts are carried out to promote the visibility of your site and getting traffic through that. If you are interested in affiliate marketing, then the company you hire must guide you to start your own affiliate network or join any other existing one. This is one of the useful internet marketing strategies that are often overlooked.

Social media marketing also plays a vital part of internet marketing. When selecting your internet marketing company check to see if they focus in this. The social media sites like facebook.com, twitter.com, and youtube.com plays an important role in getting success to any online business.
